Mixed-Media Collages

However whilst these artists are all responsible for informing certain aspects of these personal collages, the true inspiration came from my research of Mimmo Rotella, whose primary medium is old newspaper and articles to create impactful collages. Mimmo Rotella creates his collages by tearing paper to reveal the message below using his style of creating "decollages". I have applied this style to my own work, with the aim of demonstrating how air pollution is all encompassing and is able to corrode the structure of the various elements of society. To elaborate, the images of the buildings and the people represent how air pollution afflicts not just geographical locations but the residents there too. These collages therefore have formed a strong basis to develop my understating of how to display the holistic impacts of air pollution.

After studying how Alex Williamson was able to create digital collages to connote particular opinions and attitudes towards specific subjects, it inspired me to produce my own collages using various materials with the intention of discovering what was the most effective manner of presenting information. These collages are based on my attitudes towards air pollution, which is therefore why I have used my own primary source photos, as they were taken with the intent of displaying air pollution through my perspective. Furthermore, with the skills and knowledge that I have acquired through studying other artist like John Virtue and Supmanee Chaisansuk., it has refined my application of the materials and the reasons behind it.
