London's Urban Graffiti

For  my London trip, my initial purpose was to record the visual examples of air pollution and how it had impacted the architecture over the years. However whilst in London I became aware of a different form of pollution, one in the form of graffiti and street art. Pollution is defined as the presence or introduction of a substance into an environment which has harmful or poisonous effects. This description is applicable to graffiti, because of visually or mentally harmful imagery and the poisonous fumes being emitted into the landscape.

Therefore I have chosen to visually record the different types of graffiti that I have seen, because I believe it is similar to air pollution in how it builds up across an urban environment. Similar to air pollution, graffiti is built up in layers, blocking the original surface beneath it. From these photos, I have been able to produce a series of digital collages inspire by Alex Williamson, to connote the impacts of air pollution through graffiti.
